What Our Dogs Taught Us About Caring for Aging Pets

We've loved a lot of dogs in this house. Simba and Tanner were with us for years before we lost them within a short time of each other -- Simba to cancer, Tanner to liver failure. Losing them that close together was one of the harder things we've been through as a family. After Tanner, we brought home Dasher, who we adored, and then lost her to brain cancer too.

If you've been through something like that, you know the particular kind of grief that comes with losing a pet. And you probably also know the way it changes how you look at the dogs you have now.

That's where we are with Kona and Ginger.

Kona had a hip replacement when she was young. She came through it well, but we've always been aware that her joints need extra support as she gets older. She gets Cosequin every day -- it's become as routine as her morning walk. We've watched her stay active and comfortable in a way we're not sure she would have without it.

Ginger is our heart dog right now. She was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia, and when we first got the news we were told not to expect her to live long. She's over six years old now and still going. We give her a fish oil supplement every day to support her kidney function, and we pay close attention to everything she eats and how she's feeling.

Living with Kona and Ginger has taught us something we didn't fully understand before -- that caring for an aging or medically complex pet isn't about waiting for the worst. It's about being proactive, paying attention, and giving them the best support you can every single day. The right supplements, the right products, the right routines. Small things that add up to a better quality of life.

That's why we started Your Pet Connection. Not because we read about aging pets in a trade publication, but because we've lived it. Every product in this store is something we've thought carefully about, with dogs like Kona and Ginger in mind.

Your pet's story is different from ours. But if you're here, you probably love your dog or cat the way we love ours -- and you want to do right by them while you have the time.

We're glad you found us.
